Established 1862(the 2. year of Bunkyu), around the end of the EDO-period, one of the famous Bushi named Katura Kogorou, later the first foreign minister of the govenment under Meiji-Kaiser, raised flag with his sympathizers against the old fashoned Tokugawa-regime.
As he was living, hiding and waiting for the right moment to take action in KYOTO, he met Geisha with artistic talents Ikumatsu who get married with him later. Her best friend was just starting a small kimono-accessory shop and one syllable of "Iku"matsu was given to the shop for her honorable friendship. "oka"of Iku'oka'ya comes from the location of the shop and means a hillslope.
Since then over 140 years all Geishas and Maikos from Gion, Kyoto and all over Japan are our important customers. You dear foreign customers are also wellcome and in the right place when you are looking for japanese flower-hair pins, small articles for Kimono and cute souveniers from Kyoto.
